Former Sony deputy president Tom Brown teams with entrepreneurial recruiter Judy Thompson to form BrownThompson Executive Search.

July 6, 2005; SAN DIEGO; CA – Tom Brown, former deputy president of Sony Electronics’ North American operations, and Judy Thompson, president of Judy Thompson & Associates Financial Executive Search, have launched BrownThompson Executive Search, a retained search firm specializing in lasting matches for Southern Californian private, public and non-profit organizations seeking CFO, CEO and board audit committee candidates.

“After transitioning from a C-level executive role at Sony in 2004, my experiences with numerous executive search firms underwhelmed me. I saw an opportunity to create a search firm that would distinguish itself by providing a higher standard of quality and professionalism to its client companies and candidates,” says Brown, president of BrownThompson. Brown began with Sony as divisional controller of its North American manufacturing operations in 1988 and became deputy president of all its North American operations in 2001.

“I had worked closely with Tom at Sony through my other company, Judy Thompson & Associates. When he suggested combining my 25 years in executive search with his 25 years as a corporate executive to form BrownThompson, I knew we would make a powerful team and be able to make a difference for our clients and our candidates,” says Thompson, director of BrownThompson. Thompson is president of Judy Thompson & Associates as well as a co-founder of ThompsonRose Interim Consultants.

As a free service to C-level candidates transitioning between organizations, BrownThompson will host Executives in Transition, a networking group that will meet on the first Monday of each month at 8 a.m. at the firm’s offices at 5080 Shoreham Place. Participants are encouraged to call in advance as space is limited.
